Naturally. Leavened. Bread.
Bread classes at Chez Belmont are completely immersive. Attendees should come prepared to let us know your favourite bread so we can walk you through the steps of making it during our class using a natural leaven of fermented flour and water, commonly called sourdough. You will make your own personal loaf to take with you and bake at home. Each class is on average four to five hours of hands on at half to one-hour intervals, so there is lots of time in between these intervals where you will learn about everything sourdough. You will sample some fresh baked bread varietals baked just as you arrive with some small eats and drinks while you become sensory aware of the all the stages so you can enjoy good for you bread that has stood the test of centuries of bread making and master the skills of this wonderful bread.
There is nothing you need to bring as everything will be supplied to take you through this experience.
When you leave you will be taking with you your loaf you have just made for you to bake at home. This includes a banneton, a proofing basket, for you to keep for making your future loaves. You will receive some of our starter to keep you going. Currently our starter is about 35 years old and is going strong. There are recorded starters hundreds of years old that are still active, so ours is actually quite young. Any of our fresh breads left over are yours to take with you for you and your family to enjoy. All of our recipes are yours to take and share. We will send you a quantities list for any of the breads we make that you would like to try. Hopefully while you are with us, you will learn the basic techniques and tricks to go along with all of these recipes, but we will not leave you high and dry. We are available any time in the future should you need a little more guidance.
This is a class in understanding the most basic of foods the world over that can sustain you. You will get to know where our flour comes from and hopefully relish the fact that nearly everything we use is 100% organic and sourced through people and companies that are like minded to our philosophy of good for you bread.
It is a fun, relaxing, casual few hours we think will change the way you look at food and nutrition.
The cost is $150.00 for individuals, or a special for couples $250.00.
If you bring along a friend who wants to learn with you, the cost is $250.00 for the pair of you.
